Recently, we met with Rt Hon Oliver Dowden CBE MP.
As a further backdrop…
In 1965 a change in local government took everything away from Middlesex and gave nothing back to a county that stretches back to 704 AD.
Margaret Thatcher told Russell Grant back in 1987 that Middlesex exists and only the 76 year old County Council was abolished – and Middlesex will remain for as long as people want it – well the majority of people do want it, but we have nothing to show apart from organisations that bare the Middlesex name we need something more ‘official’ whether it is on OS maps or with some kind of ceremonial role.
With the GLA the Saxon crown represents Middlesex in its coat of arms so as the Government has no plan to create a Middlesex Lord-Lieutenant (the title of which goes back many of hundreds of years) .
Perhaps a Deputy Lord Lieutenant or even restoring the ancient title of Sherriff of Middlesex for ceremonial purposes – could seriously be considered…
