It was incorporated in 1965 by bringing together the Middlesex Municipal Boroughs of Hornsey, Tottenham and Wood Green.

There are so many different spellings of Haringey that the council had to officially decide which to use and decided on Haringey although the actual place is still popularly spelt Harringay. But after all is said and done Haringey or Harringay is a derivative of Hornsey anyway!
